The Beaches

Porto Katsiki

A strip of pure white sand at the foot of a towering white rock: the picture is familiar as it was awarded the prize of the loveliest beach in Greece and appears on posters promoting tourism. To get there you go down a steep path with a hundred steps from the parking lot (with plenty of canteens) or by caique from Nydri and Vassilki.

Egremni

A famous beach 2 km long surrounded by impressive cliffs, considered one of the best of the Mediterranean. The landscape resembles the Caribbean, the water a transparent aquamarine and pristine. There is a canteen beyond the parking lot and another on the beach, which is at the bottom of the 350 steps you have to go down.

Aghiofili

One of the island’s best, in a very pretty cove to the left of Vassiliki. The waters are a pure blue-green. You can take the little boat from Vassiliki or go along the path beginning from the southeastern side.

Kathisma

Once the favourite of campers and nudists, it is today Lefkada’s most cosmopolitan seashore, organized with umbrellas, loungers, beach bar and restaurants. The sand is white and pebbly, the sea blue-green. Take care however!When the northwesterly wind is strong the waves are high and it is best not to attempt to swim.

Agios Nikitas Lefkada

Agios Nikitas is a beautiful fishing village located 13 km west of Lefkada Town. Today the settlement counts on 100 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in fishing. The village nestles around the bay and is built amphitheatrically in a beautiful area full of olive groves and an enchanting landscape. The lush green and the white rocks coexist peacefully at this amazing village. Agios Nikitas has been recognized as a traditional settlement, its unique architecture adorns the houses and the small hotel units that you will find around the area. The settlement combines the traditional and cosmopolitan atmosphere offering a plethora of modern amenities for a pleasant stay. The village is bordered by some pristine beaches, the closest being the homonymous beach which lies right in front of the settlement and next to the picturesque port. It is ideal for families for its friendly and refreshing environment. Agios Nikitas is one of the most good looking villages of Lefkada and highly recommended for summer vacation for its natural beauty and delightful atmosphere. 

Sivota Lefkada

Sivota is one of the most beautiful bays in Lefkada, located 32 km south of the capital town. The settlement lies around a blue crystalline cove amidst verdant hills and lush green forests overlooking the Ionian Sea. The lovely port of the village provides a safe shelter for private yachts and quite close is also the main beach. Today, Sivota is probably the most popular tourist resort in Lefkada. It is fairly quiet during the day and much more lively at night. The village is a much preferred destination for the yacht owners. Sivota hosts some gorgeous beaches with amazing waters and white sand, extremely famous for their breathtaking beauty and the wild background. Most of them though are accessed by boat. Along the small port of Sivota you will find some nice fish taverns and restaurants.

Vassiliki Lefkada

Vassiliki is a picturesque fishing harbour, quite popular among tourists and Greek travelers. It is located 37 km from the capital of Lefkada and its population reaches 400 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in fishing. The village lies around the natural bay close to a verdurous plain. Its picturesque port is very much in action during the summer season accommodating a great number of tourists every year to the neighbour islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia as well as the nearby beaches that can only be accessed by boat. Around the edges you will find some nice seafood restaurants. Over the years, Vassiliki has developed a high tourist profile that attracts many people. However, this region is much preferred by the windsurfers when the weather allows it. The main beach of Vassiliki is well-organized with sunbeds, umbrellas and water sports centers. The area is home to many nice accommodations, camping sites, local shops, cafes and restaurants. 

Poros Lefkada

Poros is a beautiful traditional village located 25 km south of Lefkada Town. The settlement stands on the verdant slopes of a hill that descent into the blue sea. It is built amphitheatrically and has a population of about 300 inhabitants. Poros is small but it displays a couple of remarkable churches, like the church of Analipsi which hosts some fine frescoes and icons from the 17th century, and the church of the Virgin. The old olive press and the remains of a 4th century castle are also an interesting part of the sightseeing in Poros village. Poros receives many visitors during the summer either for a short stay or long term holidays.

Nidri Lefkada

Nidri is the most popular tourist resort in Lefkada located at a distance of 17 km south of the main town. Today the village has a population of 800 inhabitants most of whom are engaged in tourism and fishing.  The main street behind the bay runs full of cafes, bars and tourist shops. Beautiful sandy beaches stretch along the coast making Nidri an irresistable destination. One can enjoy amazing views across the islets of Heloni, Sparti, Madouri and Scorpios, the famous island of Aristotelis Onasis. Nidri has one of the busiest ports in Lefkada with ferry connections to the neighbour islands of Meganisi, Ithaca and Kefalonia. Nidri is full of sightseeings such as the remains of the prehistoric settlement, the famous waterfalls and Dimosari Gorge. At the centre of the town is a small folklore museum.
