Lefkada Windsurfing and Kitesurfing

Windsurfing and kitesurfing in Lefkada are the two most popular sports on the island. The strong winds that blow in summer months from midday until late in the afternoon attract many tourists for windsurfing in Lefkada. The most popular spot for Lefkada windsurfing is Vassiliki, a large bay on the southern side of the island, ideal for all levels, from beginners to advanced.

The main spot for Lefkada kitesurfing is Agios Ioannis, a large beach close to Lefkada Town where super thermal wind (15-20 knots on average) blows steadily almost every day in summer, from April to September. In these two spots, Vassiliki and Agios Ioannis, there are many centers that offer courses and rent the necessary equipment.

Diving in Lefkada

Although scuba diving in Lefkada is not as popular as windsurfing or kite surfing, however there are many interesting underwater places to visit around the island. Some Lefkada diving centers are based in popular places of the island, such as Nikiana, Nydri and Vassiliki. These centers offer courses for all ages and boat trips to diving sites.

Many interesting diving sites are found around Lefkada, such as underwater caves, reefs and old wrecks. The small islands close to Lefkada, like Meganisi and Scorpios, are also popular for diving, and so are the sites between Lefkada, Kefalonia and the mainland coasts. Upon proper guidance, Lefkada diving can also be practiced at night.

Water sports

If you enjoy water games, then you will have lots of fun in the watersports in Lefkada. Most Lefkada watersports centers are found in the popular beaches of the island, such as the beaches of Nidri and Vassiliki.

This is where visitors can find various water games, from private sailing boats and canoes to jet skiing, wake boarding, bananas and turbo rides. Spend a fun day at the beach with such fantastic games, perfect for all ages. Very fun activities in Lefkada are also windsurfing and kitesurf, which are mainly practiced in the beaches of Agios Ioannis and Vasiliki.

Festivals and cultural events of Lefkada

The traditional aspect of Lefkada is well-maintained throughout the centuries bringing inhabitants closer to the old customs. All year round, the island organizes religious festivals celebrating the patron saints of the villages with food and drink.

Religious feasts & festivals August 15th On August 15th is the celebration of the Monastery of Faneromeni in Frini, above Lefkada Town. This is a popular pilgrimage on Lefkada island. July 7th On the 7th of July, the locals celebrate the feast of Agia Kyriaki in the villages of Nydri and Vliho. Cultural events Traditional wedding: in August, the residents of Karia organise a revival of a traditional wedding, during which the bride is decorated and then the wedding procession takes place. The International Folklore Festival of Lefkada aims to reunite people with common traditions. It is held annually during the last week of August, including a parade and interesting events with famous dancing groups. Valaoritia Festival: this festival takes place in Nydri and it is dedicated to the memory of Aristotelis Valaoritis, an important poet with origin from Lefkada.
